Optics Reports provides consumers, manufacturers and others in the sports optics industry with accurate guidance on sports optics. We review riflescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes and other visual optics that use telescopes. Our reviews have been published by Long Range Only, and a discussion thread can be found there for each product review.
Visual telescopes function as an aid to the human eye, and therefore the performance of the eye must also be considered when selecting product features (i.e., aperture, magnification, spectral transmission, etc.) for a specific application.
Our product reviews address the need for an understandable and yet accurate explanation of how telescopic optics work, and to help consumers select features for specific applications (hunting, nature watching, surveillance, etc.). Our objective is to provide information that enables consumers to get the most from their purchase.
This website provides background information that we leave out of our product reviews to keep them concise. Interested readers should refer to the Test Procedures to learn more about the details of our lab tests, and how the test results relate to the use of visual optics.
Who is Optics Reports? OpticsReports was founded by Bruce Winker, who has over 30 years experience in optics, science and engineering in the aerospace & defense industry. Bruce has numerous technical publications and over 30 issued US patents. We take a scientific approach to evaluating optics. We encourage collaboration - contact us if you would like to feature laboratory test data in your next review.
OpticsReports is not employed by, receives no financial benefit from nor do we have any ownership in any sports optics manufacturers. OpticsReports does not provide contract testing services and does not accept fees. More information about test scheduling and providing T&E samples for review can be found on the Contact Us page.
